AI Visibility for Gold Coast Businesses: Does ChatGPT Name You?

Ask ChatGPT "who's the best electrician in Robina?" and it gives one answer with two or three businesses in it. More of your customers are asking that way. We check whether you appear in those answers across ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews, then work on the signals that decide who gets named.

People are asking AI for recommendations. Are you in the reply?

A Gold Coast customer who needed a plumber used to type "plumber Southport" into Google and scroll. Now plenty of them open ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity and ask "who's a reliable plumber near Southport?" The reply names two or three businesses, and that's the whole list. If you're not one of them, that customer never hears of you.

Very few owners have looked. Finding out takes about ten minutes, and you'll usually land in one of three places: the assistant names you, it names a competitor, or it can't find anyone local and points to a directory instead. Each result calls for a different next step.

AI SEO, AEO, GEO: different labels, one job

You'll hear this sold as AI SEO, answer engine optimisation (AEO), generative engine optimisation (GEO), LLM SEO or AI search optimisation. Underneath, it's one task: making sure the tools answering questions for your customers have accurate information about your business, and enough reason to trust it.

The name doesn't matter much to us. What matters is whether your business comes up when someone asks for what you do.

What the check looks at

  • All four major assistants - we ask ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews the same buying questions, because their answers often differ. Showing up in one doesn't mean you show up in the others.
  • Who they name instead of you - the businesses an assistant recommends in your place. The list is often shorter, and different, from the competitors you see in Google.
  • What they say about you - assistants describe as well as recommend, and the description can be stale, thin or simply wrong about your services, your service area or your hours.
  • Where the answer came from - the sites, directories and profiles the assistant drew on, so the fixes target the right places.

Ranking in Google helps, but it doesn't settle the AI answer

A strong Google ranking is useful, but assistants weigh other things heavily: your Google Business Profile, how many reviews you have and what they say, whether your details match across the web, and whether your website answers the question in plain words.

For a local business on the Gold Coast, that's good news. Those are the same signals that drive the Google Maps top three, so local SEO work does two jobs at once. Our Google Maps Package is built around exactly those signals, and AI visibility tracking comes with it at no extra charge.

What improves your chances

  • A complete, accurate Google Business Profile - for local questions it's the biggest single lever, just as it is for Maps.
  • Reviews that mention the job and the suburb - assistants often borrow wording from reviews, so a review that says "fixed our switchboard in Helensvale" carries more weight than a bare five stars.
  • The same details everywhere - two phone numbers or an old address across directories can make an assistant unsure enough to recommend someone else.
  • Pages that answer real questions - written in the words customers use. Content shaped like a question and answer is what tends to get quoted.
  • Structured data - schema markup that spells out what you do, where and for how much, so nothing is left to guesswork.
  • Letting the AI crawlers in - some sites block GPTBot, ClaudeBot or PerplexityBot by accident, through a security plugin or a hosting default, and have no idea.

How it fits with the rest of our work

You don't need to buy AI visibility on its own. Monthly tracking is part of the Google Maps Package, $995 setup then $495/month, reported next to your map rankings. If you want your website and content strong enough to be quoted, not just listed, that's local SEO or full SEO on the Gold Coast.

If all you want is to know where you stand, ask for the free check. We'll run it and send you the results, whether or not you ever work with us.

FAQ

Questions about AI visibility

What is AI visibility?

It's whether AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Google Gemini and Perplexity mention your business when someone asks them for a recommendation in your line of work and your area. We measure it by putting real buying questions to those assistants and noting who they name.

Are AI SEO, AEO and GEO different things?

Not really. AI SEO, answer engine optimisation (AEO) and generative engine optimisation (GEO) are rival names for the same work: making sure AI-generated answers describe your business accurately. The terminology is still settling. The work is the same.

How do I get ChatGPT to recommend my business?

Give it clear, consistent information it can verify. That means a complete Google Business Profile, regular reviews that describe the work you actually do, matching business details across the directories it reads, plain-English pages that answer customer questions, and schema markup stating what you do and where. There's no shortcut.

Can you guarantee an AI assistant will recommend me?

No. These assistants give different answers from one day to the next and change without notice, so a guarantee would be a guess. We can show you where you stand now, improve the signals they rely on, and report each month on whether anything changed.

Is AI search replacing Google?

Not yet, and we won't claim it is. Most local searches on the Gold Coast still happen in Google. But the share of questions going to assistants is rising, and checking where you stand costs very little.

Is this a separate product I have to pay for?

No. Ongoing AI visibility tracking is included in the Google Maps Package, $995 setup then $495 a month, alongside your map rank report. The one-off check is free.

Why would my website block AI crawlers?

Usually nobody chose to. Security plugins, hosting or CDN settings and robots.txt rules can shut out GPTBot, ClaudeBot or PerplexityBot without anyone noticing. Your competitors then get quoted and you don't. The free check looks for this.

Will my business appear in Google AI Mode and AI Overviews?

Those features lean on the same things as Google's local results: your Business Profile, your reviews, consistent details around the web and pages that answer questions clearly. We check which AI answers include you and strengthen whatever is missing.

What is AI search optimisation?

It's making sure AI-driven search, including Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT and Perplexity, has correct information about your business and enough confidence in it to suggest you. It also goes by AI SEO, AEO or GEO.

See what AI tells your customers about you

We'll ask ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity the questions a Gold Coast customer would ask, then send you the answers: who was named, what was said about you, and the first things worth fixing. It's free, and the results are yours to keep either way.
